Welcome to Mars

Update on my foot first.  It is much better.  I can sit and I can walk, I can climb stairs, and I can lay down.  The only thing I still find a bit difficult is to stand still, but when you are travelling that is the last thing you want to do so I will be sitting or walking right now.

Today we caught an early flight to Alice Springs, Australia.  Located at the centre of Australia, Alice is the stuff of Neville Shute who wrote the book The Legacy which was later renamed A Town Like Alice.  In the middle of the desert, in the midst of a gap of mountains, on a dry creek bed sits Alice, a town of about 27,000 people and 3,000,000,000 flies so the locals say.

I just arrived so will be doing more exploring and picture taking later.  Coming in by plane, it seems if you are on Mars.  Red, red soil, dry creeks and rivers.  But in this year of climate change all over the world, a tropical monsoon has sat over Alice.  Rains have meant that things are much more lush.

Anyways off to explore.
